2 Chronicles 34:25 - Easy To Read Version

25 I will do this because the people left me and burned incense {\cf2\super [433]} to other gods. Those people made me angry because of all the bad things they have done. So I will pour out my anger on this place. Like a hot burning fire, my anger will not be put out!’

The people of Judah left me and have burned incense [274] to other gods. They made me very angry. They made many idols. [275] That is why I will show my anger against this place. My anger will be like a fire that can’t be stopped!’


Shishak attacked the city of Jerusalem in the fifth year that Rehoboam was king. Shishak was the king of Egypt. This happened because Rehoboam and the people of Judah were not faithful to the Lord.


The Lord saw that the king and the leaders of Judah had humbled themselves. Then the message from the Lord came to Shemaiah. The Lord said to Shemaiah, “The king and the leaders humbled themselves. So I will not destroy them, but I will save them soon. I will not use Shishak to pour out my anger on Jerusalem.


Azariah went to meet Asa. Azariah said, “Listen to me Asa, and all you people of Judah and Benjamin! The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you look for the Lord, you will find him. But if you leave him, he will leave you.


The king and those leaders rejected the temple {\cf2\super [278]} of the Lord God. Their ancestors {\cf2\super [279]} followed the Lord God. They worshiped the Asherah poles {\cf2\super [280]} and other idols. God was angry with the people of Judah and Jerusalem because the king and those leaders were guilty.


“But tell this to King Josiah of Judah. He sent you to ask the Lord: This is what the Lord God of Israel says about the words you heard a little while ago:


But our ancestors made the God of heaven angry. So God gave our ancestors to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar destroyed this temple, and he forced the people to go to Babylon as prisoners.


So the Lord became angry at them. The Lord caused powerful wars against them. It was like the people of Israel had fire all around them. But they did not know what was happening. It was like they were burning. But they did not try to understand the things that were happening.


This will be the answer to that question: ‘God destroyed Jerusalem because the people of Judah quit following the Agreement {\cf2\super [176]} of the Lord their God. Those people worshiped and served other gods.’”


Become the Lord’s people.\par Change your hearts! {\cf2\super [20]} \par Men of Judah and people of Jerusalem,\par if you don’t change,\par then I will become very angry.\par My anger will spread fast like a fire,\par and my anger will burn you up.\par And no person will be able to put out that fire.\par Why will this happen?\par Because of the evil things you have done.”\par


So the Lord says this: “I will show my anger against this place. I will punish people and animals. I will punish the trees in the field and the crops that grow in the ground. My anger will be like a hot fire—and no person will be able to stop it.”


The Lord was angry and he destroyed\par all the strength of Israel.\par He took away his right hand from Israel.\par He did this when the enemy came.\par He burned like a flaming fire in Jacob. {\cf2\super [11]} \par He was like a fire that burns all around.\par


The Lord bent his bow like an enemy.\par He held his sword in his right hand.\par He killed all the good looking men of Judah.\par The Lord killed them\par as if he were the enemy.\par The Lord poured out his anger.\par He poured it out on the tents of Zion.\par


The Lord used all of his anger.\par He poured out all his anger.\par He made a fire in Zion. {\cf2\super [31]} \par That fire burned down Zion\par to its foundations.\par


Then all people will see that I, the Lord, have started the fire. The fire won’t be put out!’”


They spilled blood on the ground when they murdered people in that land. They made the land filthy with their idols. {\cf2\super [281]} So I showed them how angry I was.


Go to the Lord, and live.\par If you don’t go to the Lord,\par then a fire will start at Joseph’s house. {\cf2\super [65]} \par That fire will destroy Joseph’s house,\par and no person will be able to stop\par that fire at Bethel.\par


No person can stand against\par the Lord’s great anger.\par No one can endure his terrible anger.\par His anger will burn like fire.\par The rocks will shatter when he comes.\par
