Even now there is someone in heaven\par that will speak for me.\par There is someone above\par that will testify for me.\par

You know what people say,\par ‘A man neglects his own children\par to help his friends.’ {\cf2\super [32]} \par But my friends have turned against me.\par

A person who tells gossip about other people can’t be trusted. So don’t be friends with a person who talks too much.

If you help someone by telling him he is doing wrong, then later he will be happy with you. That is much better than always saying only nice things to people.

They tell the prophets, “Don’t see dreams {\cf2\super [278]} about things we should do! Don’t tell us the truth! Say nice things to us and make us feel good! See only good things for us!

They are like hungry dogs.\par They are never satisfied.\par The shepherds don’t know\par what they are doing.\par \{They are like their sheep\}\par that have all wandered away.\par They are greedy.\par All they want to do is satisfy themselves.\par

Some false prophets are telling lies to the Lord’s people. The Lord says this about those prophets:

“Surely, some of you priests could close the temple doors and light the fires correctly. I am not pleased with you. I will not accept your gifts.” The Lord All-Powerful said these things.

The Pharisees sent some men to Jesus \{to trick him\}. They sent some of their own followers and some men from the group called Herodians. {\cf2\super [306]} These men said, “Teacher, we know that you are an honest man. We know that you teach the truth about God’s way. You are not afraid of what other people think about you. All men are the same to you.

“It will be bad for you teachers of the law and Pharisees. {\cf2\super [333]} You are hypocrites. {\cf2\super [334]} You close the way for people to enter the kingdom of heaven. You yourselves don’t enter, and you stop the people that are trying to enter.

When I was with you, I never wanted anyone’s money or fine clothes.

People like that are not serving our Lord Christ. They are only doing things to please themselves. They use fancy talk and say nice things to fool the people that don’t know about evil.

I am in Christ and I am telling you the truth. I don’t lie. My deepest feelings are ruled by the Holy Spirit. {\cf2\super [72]} And those feelings tell me that I am not lying:

Did I cheat you by using any of the men I sent to you? No! You know I didn’t.

We don’t sell the word of God for a profit like many other people do. No! But in Christ we speak in truth before God. We speak like men sent from God.

But we have turned away from secret and shameful ways. We don’t use trickery, and we don’t change the teaching of God. No! We teach the truth plainly. This is how we show people who we are. And this is how they can know in their hearts what kind of people we are before God.

Open your hearts to us. We have not done wrong to any person. We have not ruined \{the faith of\} any person, and we have not cheated any person.

God knows that these things I write are not lies.

When we were with you believers, we lived in a holy and right way, without fault. You know that this is true, and God knows that this is true.

He must not drink too much wine, and he must not be a person who likes to fight. He must be gentle and peaceful. He must not be a person who loves money.

In the same way, the men who serve as special helpers {\cf2\super [11]} must be men that people can respect. These men must not say things they don’t mean, and they must not use their time drinking too much wine. They must not be men who are always trying to get rich by cheating others.

An elder {\cf2\super [5]} has the job of taking care of God’s work. So people should not be able to say that he lives in a wrong way. He must not be a person who is proud and selfish or who becomes angry quickly. He must not drink too much wine. He must not be a person who likes to fight. And he must not be a person who always tries to get rich by cheating people.

take care of the group of people that you are responsible for. They are God’s flock. {\cf2\super [31]} Watch over that flock because you want to, not because you are forced to do it. That is how God wants it. Do it because you are happy to serve, not because you want money.

Those false teachers boast with words that mean nothing. They lead people into the trap \{of sin\}. They lead away people who are just beginning to come away from other people who live wrong. Those false teachers do this by using the evil things people want to do in their sinful selves.

Those false teachers only want your money. So they will use you by telling you things that are not true. But the judgment against those false teachers has been ready for a long time. And they will not escape the One (God) who will destroy them.
