49 David took out a stone from his bag. He put it in his sling [161] and swung the sling. The stone flew from the sling and hit Goliath right between the eyes. The stone sank deep into his head, and Goliath fell to the ground—face down.

But a soldier shot an arrow into the air—he was not aiming at any special person. But his arrow hit {Ahab,} the king of Israel. The arrow hit the king in a small place where his armor did not cover his body. So King Ahab said to his chariot driver, “An arrow has hit me! Drive the chariot out of this area. We must go away from the fighting.”


But Jehu pulled his bow with all his strength and shot Joram in his back. [113] The arrow went through Joram’s heart. Joram fell dead in his chariot. [114]


Goliath the Philistine started to attack David. Goliath slowly walked closer and closer towards David. But David ran out to meet Goliath.


So David defeated the Philistine with only a sling [162] and one stone! He hit the Philistine and killed him. David didn’t have a sword,


David risked his life when he killed the Philistine (Goliath). The Lord won a great victory for all Israel. You saw it, and you were happy. Why do you want to hurt David? He’s innocent. There is no reason to kill him!”
