1 John 3:12 - Easy To Read Version

12 Don’t be like Cain. {\cf2\super [10]} Cain belonged to the Evil One (the devil). Cain killed his brother \{Abel {\cf2\super [11]} \}. But why did Cain kill his brother? Because the things Cain did were evil, and the things his brother \{Abel\} did were good.

Adam again had sexual relations with Eve. And Eve gave birth to another son. They named him Seth. [30] Eve said, “God has given me another son. Cain killed Abel, but now I have Seth.”


Absalom began to hate Amnon. Absalom did not say one word, good or bad, to Amnon. Absalom hated Amnon because Amnon had raped his sister Tamar.


Evil people plan bad things\par against good people.\par Those evil people show they are angry\par by grinding their teeth at good people.\par


My enemies do bad things to me,\par and I did only good things to them.\par I tried to do only good things,\par but those people turned against me.\par


Anger is cruel and mean. It causes destruction. But jealousy is much worse.


Murderers always hate honest people. Those evil people want to kill good, honest people. {\cf2\super [37]}


Good people hate those people who are not honest. And evil people hate people who are honest.


What is the seed that fell by the path? That seed is like the person that hears the teaching about the kingdom but does not understand it. The Evil One (the devil) comes and takes away the things that were planted in that person’s heart.


The field is the world. The good seed are all of God’s children in the kingdom. The weeds are those people that belong to the Evil One (the devil).


So you will be guilty for the death of all the good people that have been killed on earth. You will be guilty for the killing of that good man Abel. {\cf2\super [357]} And you will be guilty for the killing of Zechariah {\cf2\super [358]} son of Berachiah. He was killed between the temple {\cf2\super [359]} and the altar. {\cf2\super [360]} You will be guilty for the killing of all the good people that lived between the time of Abel and the time of Zechariah.


Pilate asked, “Why do you want me to kill him? What wrong has he done?”


Say only ‘yes’ if you mean yes, and say only ‘no’ if you mean no. If you must say more than ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ it is from the Evil One (the devil).


You will be punished for the killing of Abel. {\cf2\super [217]} And you will be punished for the killing of Zechariah. {\cf2\super [218]} Zechariah was killed between the altar and the temple. {\cf2\super [219]} Yes, I tell you that you people that live now will be punished for them all.


But Jesus said to them, “I have done many good things from the Father. You have seen those things. Which of those good things are you killing me for?”


I am a man who has told you the truth I heard from God. But you are trying to kill me. Abraham did nothing like that.


So you are doing the things your own father did.”


Your ancestors persecuted {\cf2\super [148]} every prophet {\cf2\super [149]} that ever lived. Those prophets said long ago that the Righteous One (Christ {\cf2\super [150]})would come. But your ancestors killed those prophets. And now you have turned against the Righteous One and killed him.


Brothers and sisters, you are like God’s churches (people) in Christ Jesus that are in Judea. {\cf2\super [8]} God’s people in Judea suffered bad things from the other Jews there. And you suffered the same bad things from the people of your own country.


Cain and Abel both offered sacrifices {\cf2\super [143]} to God. But Abel offered a better sacrifice to God because Abel had faith. God said he was pleased with the things Abel offered. And so God called Abel a good man because Abel had faith. Abel died, but through his faith he is still speaking.


You have come to Jesus—the One that brought the new agreement {\cf2\super [168]} from God to his people. You have come to the sprinkled blood {\cf2\super [169]} that tells us about better things than the blood of Abel. {\cf2\super [170]}


Those non-believers think that it is strange that you don’t do the many wild and wasteful things that they do. And so they say bad things about you.


The devil has been sinning since the beginning. The person who continues to sin belongs to the devil. The Son of God (Christ) came for this: to destroy the devil’s work.


I saw that the woman was drunk. She was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people. {\cf2\super [127]} She was drunk with the blood of those people who told about \{their faith in\} Jesus.
