1 Corinthians 3:19 - Easy To Read Version

19 Why? Because the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. It is like the Scriptures {\cf2\super [21]} say, “He (God) catches the wise (smart) people when they use their sneaky ways.” {\cf2\super [22]}

1 Corinthians 3:19
22 Tagairtí Cros

A person told David, “Ahithophel is one of the people who made plans with Absalom.” Then David prayed, “Lord, I ask you to make Ahithophel’s advice useless.”

At that time, the advice of Ahithophel was very {important} to both David and Absalom. It was as {important as} God’s word to a man.

Absalom and all the Israelites said, “The advice of Hushai the Arkite is better than Ahithophel’s advice.” {They said this} because it was the Lord’s plan. The Lord had planned to make Ahithophel’s good advice useless. That is how the Lord would punish Absalom.

Ahithophel saw that the Israelites did not accept his advice. Ahithophel put a saddle on his donkey and went back to his home town. He made plans for his family and then he hanged himself. After Ahithophel died, the people buried him in his father’s tomb. [101]

So they hanged Haman on the hanging post he had built for Mordecai. Then the king stopped being angry.

God catches even wise people\par in their own traps.\par So those clever plans are not successful.\par

Let wicked people fall into their own trap,\par while I walk away unharmed.\par

We must make plans to stop the Israelites from growing stronger. If there is a war, the people of Israel might join our enemies. Then they might defeat us and escape from us.”

Now I know the Lord is greater than all the gods. They thought they were in control, but look what God did!

Smart people are wise because they think carefully about the things they do. But foolish people are fools because they think they can live by cheating.

There is no person who is wise enough to make a plan that can succeed if the Lord is against it.

False prophets {\cf2\super [397]} tell lies, but the Lord shows their lies are false. The Lord makes foolish people of the men that do magic. The Lord confuses even wise men. They think they know much, but the Lord makes them look foolish.

We teach wisdom to people that are mature. But this wisdom we teach is not from this world. It is not the wisdom of the rulers of this world. Those rulers are losing their power.

Brothers and sisters, I have used Apollos and myself as examples for you in these things. I did this so that you could learn from us the meaning of the words, “Follow only what the Scriptures {\cf2\super [24]} say.” Then you will not be proud of one man and hate another.

Then we will not still be babies. We will not be people who change like a ship that the waves carry one way and then another. We will not be influenced (changed) by every new teaching we hear from people who try to fool us. Those people make plans and try any kind of trick to fool people into following the wrong way.

That kind of “wisdom” does not come from God. That “wisdom” comes from the world. It is not spiritual. It is from the devil.
