And when he spoke these things, he answered him: Art thou the king's counsellor? Be quiet, lest I kill thee. And the prophet departing said: I know that God is minded to kill thee, because thou hast done this evil, and moreover hast not hearkened to my counsel.


Therefore, ye men of understanding, hear me. Far from God be wickedness: and iniquity from the Almighty.


If then thou hast understanding, hear what is said: and hearken to the voice of my words.


Hear ye, wise men, my words, and ye learned, hearken to me:


Let men of understanding speak to me: and let a wise man hearken to me.


He that loveth correction, loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is foolish.


A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: the learning of the wise is easy.


A wise heart shall acquire knowledge: and the ear of the wise seeketh instruction.


The wicked man being; scourged, the fool shall be wiser: but if thou rebuke a wise man he will understand discipline.


When a pestilent man is punished, the little one will be wiser: and if he follow the wise, he will receive knowledge.


Hear instruction and be wise, and refuse it not.


Rebuke not a scorner lest he hate thee. Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.


Give an occasion to a wise man, and wisdom shall be added to him. Teach a just man, and he shall make haste to receive it.


I turned me to another thing, and I saw that under the sun, the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the learned, nor favour to the skilful: but time and chance in all.


I speak as to wise men: judge ye yourselves what I say.


And you shall observe, and fulfil them in practice. For this is your wisdom, and understanding in the sight of nations, that hearing all these precepts they may say: Behold a wise and understanding people, a great nation.
