Hath it not been told thee, my lord, what I did when Jezabel killed the prophets of the Lord, how I hid a hundred men of the prophets of the Lord by fifty and fifty in caves, and fed them with bread and water?


For when Jezabel killed the prophets of the Lord, he took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifty and fifty in caves, and fed them with bread and water.


And he answered: With zeal have I been zealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant. They have thrown down thy altars, they have slain thy prophets with the sword, and I alone am left: and they seek my life to take it away.

And tell them: Thus saith the king: Put this man in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction, and water of distress, till I return in peace.


And Asa was angry with the seer, and commanded him to be put in prison: for he was greatly enraged because of this thing. And he put to death many of the people at that time.


But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused the prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and there was no remedy.


But they provoked thee to wrath, and departed from thee, and threw thy law behind their backs. And they killed thy prophets, who admonished them earnestly to return to thee. And they were guilty of great blasphemies.


In vain have I struck your children: they have not received correction. Your sword hath devoured your prophets: your generation is like a ravaging lion.


And Phassur struck Jeremias the prophet and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, in the house of the Lord.


The Lord hath made thee priest instead of Joiada the priest, that thou shouldst be ruler in the house of the Lord over every man that raveth and prophesieth, to put him in the stocks and into prison.


As for the word which thou hast spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken to thee:


And behold a woman of Canaan who came out of those coasts, crying out, said to him: Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David: my daughter is grieviously troubled by the devil.


And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant to receive of the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.


And again he sent to them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and used him reproachfully.


Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain them who foretold of the coming of the Just One; of whom you have been now the betrayers and murderers:


Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and the prophets, and have persecuted us, and please not God, and are adversaries to all men;
