But he answered him: I will not go with thee, but I will return to my country, wherein I was born.


He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me.


And another said: I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.


And there went great multitudes with him. And turning, he said to them:


Itself remaineth alone. But if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, keepeth it unto life eternal.


But I fear none of these things, neither do I count my life more precious than myself, so that I may consummate my course and the ministry of the word which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.


As it is written: Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.


If a man have two wives, one beloved, and the other hated, and they have had children by him, and the son of the hated be the firstborn:


Who hath said to his father, and to his mother: I do not know you. And to his brethren: I know you not: and their own children they have not known. These have kept thy word, and observed thy covenant,


Furthermore I count all things to be but loss for the excellent knowledge of Jesus Christ my Lord; for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but as dung, that I may gain Christ:


And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of the testimony, and they loved not their lives unto death.
