When this was told David, he sent to meet them. For the men were sadly put to confusion, and David commanded them, saying: Stay at Jericho, till your beards be grown, and then return.


And he burnt the house of the Lord, and the king's house, and the houses of Jerusalem: and every house he burnt with fire.


And all the vessels of gold, and silver, and brass king David consecrated to the Lord, with the silver and gold which he had taken from all the nations: as well from Edom, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, as from the Philistines, and from Amalec.


And all their cities, and their villages, and castles, they burned.


And all the household goods that are there, thou shalt gather together in the midst of the streets thereof, and shalt burn them with the city itself, so as to consume all for the Lord thy God, and that it be a heap for ever. It shall be built no more.


And there shall nothing of that anathema stick to thy hand: that the Lord may turn from the wrath of his fury, and may have mercy on thee, and multiply thee as he swore to thy fathers:


But of those cities that shall be given thee thou shalt suffer none at all to live:


And he cut off all the souls that abode there: he left not in it any remains, but utterly destroyed all, and burned the city itself with fire.


But whatsoever gold or silver there shall be, or vessels of brass and iron, let it be consecrated to the Lord, laid up in his treasures.


But Josue saved Rahab the harlot and her father's house, and all she had, and they dwelt in the midst of Israel until this present day: because she hid the messengers whom he had sent to spy out Jericho. At that time, Josue made an imprecation, saying:


And he burned the city, and made it a heap for ever.


And the ten horns which thou sawest in the beast: these shall hate the harlot, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and shall burn her with fire.


Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine, and she shall be burnt with the fire; because God is strong, who shall judge her.
