Remember not our former iniquities: let thy mercies speedily prevent us, for we are become exceeding poor.


Rejoice therefore, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart be in that which is good in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thy eyes: and know that for all these God will bring thee into judgment.


And instead of a sweet smell, there shall be stench: and instead of a girdle, a cord. And instead of curled hair, baldness: and instead of a stomacher, haircloth.


They are returned to the former iniquities of their fathers who refused to hear my words: so these likewise have gone after strange gods, to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Juda have made void my covenant which I made with their fathers.


But thou, O Lord, hast shewn me, and I have known: then thou shewedst me their doings.


And I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle out of the place where I had hid it: and behold, the girdle was rotten, so that it was fit for no use.


And you also have done worse than your fathers: for, behold, every one of you walketh after the perverseness of his evil heart, so as not to hearken to me.


They shall die by the death of grievous illnesses: they shall not be lamented and they shall not be buried: they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed with the sword and with famine: and their carcasses shall be meat for the fowls of the air and for the beasts of the earth.


For thus saith the Lord: Behold, I will deliver thee up to fear, thee and all thy friends. And they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thy eyes shall see it. And I will give all Juda into the hand of the king of Babylonand he shall carry them away to Babylon and he shall strike them with the sword.


I spoke to thee in thy properity: and thou saidst: I will not hear. This hath been thy way from thy youth, because thou hast not heard my voice.


They say to them that blaspheme me: The Lord hath said, You shall have peace. And to every one that walketh in the perverseness of his own heart they have said: No evil shall come to you.


At that time Jerusalem shall be called the Throne of the Lord: and all the nations shall be gathered together to it, in the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem, and they shall not walk after the perversity of their most wicked heart.


And I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early, and sending and saying: Return ye every man from his wicked way and make your ways good, and follow not strange gods nor worship them: and you shall dwell in the land: which I gave you and your fathers. And you have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened to me.


As for the word which thou hast spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken to thee:


But they heard not nor inclined their ear to turn from their evil ways and not to sacrifice to strange gods.


But the heart of this people is become hard of belief and provoking: they are revolted and gone away.


And now, because you have done all these works, saith the Lord: and I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking, and you have not heard: and I have called you, and you have not answered:


If you oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, and walk not after strange gods to your own hurt:


Why then is this people in Jerusalem turned away with a stubborn revolting? They have laid hold on lying and have refused to return.


And the Lord said: Because they have forsaken my law which I gave them, and have not heard my voice, and have not walked in it.


But they have gone after the perverseness of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them.


Thy habitation is in the midst of deceit: Through deceit they have refused to know me, saith the Lord.


And the Lord said to Moses: How long will this people detract me? how long will they not believe me for all the signs that I have wrought before them?


You stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you also.


See that you refuse him not that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke upon the earth, much more shall not we, that turn away from him that speaketh to us from heaven.
