Remember not our former iniquities: let thy mercies speedily prevent us, for we are become exceeding poor.


He will crown thee with a crown of tribulation: he will toss thee like a ball into a large and spacious country. There shalt thou die: and there shall the chariot of thy glory be, the shame of the house of thy Lord.


And rain shall be given to thy seed, wheresoever thou shalt sow in the land: and the bread of the corn of the land shall be most plentiful and fat. The lamb in that day shall feed at large in thy possession.


And the lambs shall feed according to their order: and strangers shall eat the deserts turned into fruitfulness.


If our iniquities have testified against us, O Lord, do thou it for thy name's sake, for our rebellions are many: we have sinned against thee.


And the Lord said to me: The rebellious Israel hath justified her soul, in comparison of the treacherous Juda.


And the Lord said to me in the days of king Josias: Hast thou seen what rebellious Israel hast done? She hath gone out of herself upon every high mountain and under every green tree and hath played the harlot there.


That because the rebellious Israel had played the harlot, I had put her away and had given her a bill of divorce: yet her treacherous sister Juda was not afraid, but went and played the harlot also herself.


Hearing, I heard Ephraim when he went into captivity. Thou hast chastised me: and I was instructed, as a young bullock unaccustomed to the yoke. Convert me, and I shall be converted: for thou art the Lord my God.


Wherefore a lion out of the wood hath slain them, a wolf in the evening hath spoiled them, a leopard watcheth for their cities: every one that shall go out thence shall be taken, because their transgressions are multiplied, their rebellions are strengthened.


But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear: but walked in their own will and in the perversity of their wicked heart, and went backward and not forward,


Why then is this people in Jerusalem turned away with a stubborn revolting? They have laid hold on lying and have refused to return.


Ephraim is a heifer taught to love to tread out corn, but I passed over upon the beauty of her neck: I will ride upon Ephraim, Juda shall plough, Jacob shall break the furrows for himself.


The sword hath begun in his cities, and it shall consume his chosen men, and shall devour their heads.


And my people shall long for my return: but a yoke shall be put upon them together, which shall not be taken off.


And I will scatter you among the Gentiles: and I will draw out the sword after you. And your land shall be desert, and your cities destroyed.


But they would not hearken, and they turned away the shoulder to depart: and they stopped their ears, not to hear.


It repenteth me that I have made Saul king: for he hath forsaken me, and hath not executed my commandments. And Samuel was grieved, and he cried unto the Lord all night.
