And Abram and Nachor married wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai: and the name of Nachor's wife, Melcha, the daughter of Aran, father of Melcha, and father of Jescha.


Say, therefore, I pray thee, that thou art my sister: that I may be well used for thee, and that my soul may live for thy sake.


Abraham answered: I thought with myself, saying: Perhaps there is not the fear of God in this place; and they will kill me for the sake of my wife.


And after God brought me out of my father's house, I said to her: Thou shalt do me this kindness: In every place, to which we shall come, thou shalt say that I am thy brother.


And he said of Sara his wife: She is my sister. So Abimelech the king of Gerara sent, and took her.


And when he was asked by the men of that place, concerning his wife, he answered: She is my sister. For he was afraid to confess that she was his wife, thinking lest perhaps they would like him because of her beauty.


For I shall not be able to bear my shame; and thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. But rather speak to the king; and he will not deny me to thee.
