And Sarai was barren, and had no children.


And I will bless her, and of her I will give thee a son, whom I will bless: and he shell become nations, and kings of people shall spring from him.


And he said to him: I will return and come to thee at this time, life accompanying; and Sara thy wife shall have a son. Which when Sara heard, she laughed behind the door of the tent.


And the elder said to the younger: Our father is old, and there is no man left on the earth, to come in unto us after the manner of the whole earth.


For the Lord had closed up every womb of the house of Abimelech, on account of Sara, Abraham's wife.


And Isaac besought the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and he heard him, and made Rebecca to conceive.


And Adam said: The woman, whom thou gavest me to be my companion, gave me of the tree, and I did eat.


And to Adam he said: Because thou hast hearkened to the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldst not eat, cursed is the earth in thy work; with labour and toil shalt thou eat thereof all the days of thy life.


The Lord also remembering Rachel heard her, and opened her womb,


And Rachel said: The Lord hath judged for me, and hath heard my voice, giving me a son. And therefore she called his name Dan.

But if his master gave him a wife, and she hath borne sons and daughters: the woman and her children shall be her master's. But he himself shall go out with his raiment.


Then all the people that were in the gate, and the ancients answered: We are witnesses. The Lord make this woman who cometh into thy house, like Rachel, and Lia, who built up the house of Israel: that she may be an example of virtue in Ephrata, and may have a famous name in Bethlehem.
