Thou hast beaten and prevailed over Edom, and thy heart hath lifted thee up: be content with the glory, and sit at home. Why provokest thou evil, that thou shouldst fall, and Juda with thee?


And the covenant that he made with you, you shall not forget: neither shall ye worship strange gods,


But when he was made strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: and he neglected the Lord his God. And going into the temple of the Lord, he had a mind to burn incense upon the altar of incense.


But he did not render again according to the benefits which he had received, for his heart was lifted up: and wrath was enkindled against him, and against Juda and Jerusalem.


Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him: and his wonderful works to the children of men.


Because they have devoured Jacob; and have laid waste his place.


And Moses said to the people: Remember this day in which you came forth out of Egypt, and out of the house of bondage, for with a strong hand hath the Lord brought you forth out of this place: that you eat no leavened bread.


See ye the word of the Lord: Am I become a wilderness to Israel, or a lateward springing land? Why then have my people said: We are revolted, we will come to thee no more?


And they have not said: Where is the Lord that made us come up out of the land of Egypt? that led us through the desert, through a land uninhabited and unpassable, through a land of drought, and the image of death, through a land wherein no man walked, nor any man dwelt?


Who seek to make my people forget my name through their dreams, which they tell every man to his neighbour: as their fathers forgot my name for Baal.


According to their pastures they were filled, and were made full: and they lifted up their heart, and have forgotten me.


That when they shall see them, they may remember all the commandments of the Lord, and not follow their own thoughts and eyes going astray after divers things.


If thy brother the son of thy mother, or thy son, or daughter, or thy wife that is in thy bosom, or thy friend, whom thou lovest as thy own soul, would persuade thee secretly, saying: Let us go, and serve strange gods, which thou knowest not, nor thy fathers,


And that his heart be not lifted up with pride over his brethren, nor decline to the right or to the left: that he and his sons may reign a long time over Israel.


Keep thyself therefore, and thy soul carefully. Forget not the words that thy eyes have seen: and let them not go out of thy heart all the days of thy life. Thou shalt teach them to thy sons and to thy grandsons,


I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.


Houses full of riches, which thou didst not set up, cisterns which thou didst not dig, vineyards and oliveyards, which thou didst not plant:


Take heed, and beware lest at any time thou forget the Lord thy God, and neglect his commandments and judgments and ceremonies, which I command thee this day.


And shalt have herds of oxen and flocks of sheep, and plenty of gold and of silver, and of all things.


And they did evil in the sight of the Lord: and they forgot their God, and served Baalim and Astaroth.
