And when he had passed, and stood still, Chusai appeared. And coming up he said: I bring good tidings, my lord; the king, for the Lord hath judged for thee this day from the hand of all that have risen up against thee.


But Abner the son of Ner, general of Saul's army, took Isboseth the son of Saul, and led him about through the camp,


God who giveth me revenge, and bringest down people under me:


Saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel. For they are dead that sought the life of the child.


Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath judged your judgment on her.


And they cried with a loud voice, saying: How long, O Lord (holy and true) dost thou not judge and revenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?


And threw it, thinking to nail David to the wall: and David stept aside out of his presence twice.


And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and to all his servants, that they should kill David. But Jonathan the son of Saul loved David exceedingly.


And again Saul sent to see David, saying: Bring him to me in the bed, that he may be slain.


But David fled from Najoth, which is in Ramatha, and came and said to Jonathan: What have I done? What is my iniquity, and what is my sin against thy father, that he seeketh my life?


And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life. And David was in the desert of Ziph, in a wood.


And he came to the sheepcotes, which were in his way. And there was a cave, into which Saul went, to ease nature. Now David and his men lay hid in the inner part of the cave.


For if a man at any time shall rise, and persecute thee, and seek thy life, the soul of my lord shall be kept, as in the bundle of the living, with the Lord thy God. But the souls of thy enemies shall be whirled, as with the violence and whirling of a sling.
