Ye mountains of Gelboe, let neither dew, nor rain come upon you: neither be they fields of firstfruits. For there was cast away the shield of the valiant, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil.


And the young man that told him said: I came by chance upon mount Gelboe, and Saul leaned upon his spear: and the chariots and horsemen drew nigh unto him.


And the men of Juda came, and anointed David there, to be king over the house of Juda. And it was told David, that the men of Jabes Galaad had buried Saul.


And it was told David, what Respha the daughter of Aia, the concubine of Saul, had done.


And he brought from thence the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son: and they gathered up the bones of them that were crucified,


Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines; and fell down wounded in Mount Gelboe.


All the valiant men of them arose, and took the bodies of Saul and of his sons, and brought them to Jabes, and buried their bones under the oak that was in Jabes. And they fasted seven days.


And the next day the Philistines, taking away the spoils of them that were slain, found Saul and his sons lying on mount Gelboe.


And the inheritance of Manasses in Issachar and in Aser was Bethsan and its villages, and Jeblaam with its villages, and the inhabitants of Dor, with the towns thereof: the inhabitants also of Endor with the villages thereof: and in like manner the inhabitants of Thenac with the villages thereof: and the inhabitants of Mageddo with their villages, and the third part of the city of Nopheth.


And the Philistines were gathered together, and came and camped in Sunam. And Saul also gathered together all Israel, and came to Gelboe.


And the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gelboe.


And the whole weight of the battle was turned upon Saul: and the archers overtook him. And he was grievously wounded by the archers.


Then Saul said to his armourbearer: Draw thy sword, and kill me: lest these uncircumcised come, and slay me, and mock at me. And his armourbearer would not: for he was struck with exceeding great fear. Then Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.
