And when this was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David and fought against him.


And David took from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen, and houghed all the chariot horses: and only reserved of them for one hundred chariots.


And he gathered men against him, and he became a captain of robbers, when David slew them of Soba. And they went to Damascus, and dwelt there: and they made him king in Damascus.


But the Syrian fled before Israel. And David slew of the Syrians seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and Sophach the general of the army.
