Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the holocaust, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.


And again he sent to him another captain of fifty men, and his fifty with him. And he said to him: Man of God, thus saith the king: Make haste and come down.


Again he sent a third captain of fifty men, and the fifty that were with him. And when he was come, he fell upon his knees, before Elias, and besought him and said: Man of God, despise not my life, and the lives of thy servants that are with me.


And while he was yet speaking, another came, and said: The fire of God fell from heaven and, striking the sheep and the servants, hath consumed them. And I alone have escaped to tell thee.


And fire coming out from the Lord destroyed them: and they died before the Lord.
