And now thou sayest to me: Go, and tell thy master: Elias is here.


And as they went on, walking and talking together, behold, a fiery chariot, and fiery horses parted them both asunder: and Elias went up by a whirlwind into heaven.


And they said to him: Behold, there are with thy servants fifty strong men, that can go, and seek thy master; lest perhaps the spirit of the Lord hath taken him up and cast him upon some mountain or into some valley. And he said: Do not send.


And in the eighth year of his reign, when he was yet a boy, he began to seek the God of his father David: and in the twelfth year after he began to reign, he cleansed Juda and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the idols, and the graven things.


And he shall continue with the sun, and before the moon, throughout all generations.


The fear of the Lord hateth evil: I hate arrogance, and pride, and every wicked way, and a mouth with a double tongue.


Be not overmuch wicked: and be not foolish, lest thou die before thy time.


Who is there among you that feareth the Lord, that heareth the voice of his servant, that hath walked in darkness, and hath no light? Let him hope in the name of the Lord and lean upon his God.


And the spirit lifted me up and brought me into Chaldea, to them of the captivity, in vision, by the spirit of God: and the vision which I had seen was taken up from me.


The hand of the Lord was upon me, and brought me forth in the spirit of the Lord: and set me down in the midst of a plain that was full of bones.

THEN Jesus was led by the spirit into the desert, to be tempted by the devil.


For he shall be great before the Lord; and shall drink no wine nor strong drink: and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.


And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not; having examined the keepers, he commanded they should be put to death; and going down from Judea to Caesarea, he abode there.


And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord took away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more. And he went on his way rejoicing.


And because from thy infancy thou hast known the holy scriptures, which can instruct thee to salvation, by the faith which is in Christ Jesus.


And Samuel said: How shall I go, for Saul will hear of it, and he will kill me? And the Lord said: Thou shalt take with thee a calf of the herd, and thou shalt say: I am come to sacrifice to the Lord.


But Samuel ministered before the face of the Lord: being a child girded with a linen ephod.


But the child Samuel advanced, and grew on, and pleased both the Lord and men.
