The Lord spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they didn’t listen.

They refused to listen and did not remember your wonders which you performed among them. They became stiff-necked and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt.  , But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love, and you did not abandon them.

But they were disobedient and rebelled against you. They flung your law behind their backs and killed your prophets who warned them in order to turn them back to you. They committed terrible blasphemies.

You warned them to turn back to your law, but they acted arrogantly and would not obey your commands. They sinned against your ordinances, which a person will live by if he does them. They stubbornly resisted, stiffened their necks, and would not obey.

So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and told him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may worship me.

He had said to them, ‘This is the place of rest; let the weary rest; this is the place of repose.’ But they would not listen.

Listen to me, you hard-hearted, far removed from justice:

Make the minds  of these people dull; deafen their ears and blind their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, understand with their minds, turn back, and be healed.

I will destine you for the sword, and all of you will kneel down to be slaughtered, because I called and you did not answer, I spoke and you did not hear; you did what was evil in my sight and chose what I did not delight in.’

They have returned to the iniquities of their ancestors  who refused to obey my words and have followed other gods to worship them.  The house of Israel and the house of Judah broke my covenant which I made with their ancestors.

These evil people, who refuse to listen to me, who follow the stubbornness of their own hearts,  and who have followed other gods to serve and bow in worship #– #they will be like this underwear, of no use at all.

They wouldn’t listen or pay attention but became obstinate,  not listening or accepting discipline.

But if you do not listen to me to keep the Sabbath day holy by not carrying a load while entering the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, I will set fire to its gates,  and it will consume the citadels  of Jerusalem  and not be extinguished.” ’

‘This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: “I am about to bring on this city #– #and on all its cities #– #every disaster that I spoke against it, for they have become obstinate, not obeying my words.” ’

Time and time again  I have sent you all my servants the prophets, proclaiming, ‘Turn, each one from his evil way,  and correct your actions. Stop following other gods to serve them.  Live in the land that I gave you and your ancestors.’ But you did not pay attention or obey me.

I will punish him, his descendants, and his officers for their iniquity. I will bring on them, on the residents of Jerusalem, and on the people of Judah all the disaster, which I warned them about but they did not listen.” ’

For I have told you today, but you have not obeyed the Lord your God in everything he has sent me to tell you.

‘As for the word you spoke to us in the name of the Lord, we are not going to listen to you!

Hear this, you foolish and senseless   people. They have eyes, but they don’t see. They have ears, but they don’t hear.

Lord, don’t your eyes look for faithfulness? You have struck them, but they felt no pain. You finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They made their faces harder than rock, and they refused to return.

Yet they didn’t listen or pay attention,  but followed their own advice and their own stubborn, evil heart. They went backwards and not forwards.

However, my people wouldn’t listen to me or pay attention but became obstinate;  they did more evil than their ancestors.

Why have these people turned away? Why is Jerusalem always turning away? They take hold of deceit; they refuse to return.

Do not be like your ancestors;  the earlier prophets proclaimed to them:  This is what the Lord of Armies says: Turn from your evil ways and your evil deeds.  But they did not listen or pay attention to me #– #this is the Lord’s declaration.

For this people’s heart has grown callous; their ears are hard of hearing, and they have shut their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn back – and I would heal them.   ,

‘You stiff-necked  people with uncircumcised hearts and ears!  You are always resisting the Holy Spirit. As your ancestors did, you do also.

They yelled at the top of their voices, covered their ears, and together rushed against him.

See to it that you do not reject the one who speaks. For if they did not escape when they rejected him who warned them on earth, even less will we if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven.
