Since the harbour was unsuitable to winter in, the majority decided to set sail from there, hoping somehow to reach Phoenix, a harbour on Crete  facing the southwest and northwest, and to winter there.

For I may be absent in body, but I am with you in spirit,  rejoicing to see how well ordered you are and the strength of your faith in Christ.


As I urged you when I went to Macedonia,  remain in Ephesus  so that you may instruct certain people  not to teach false doctrine


What you have heard from me  in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful  men  who will be able to teach others also.


One of their very own prophets said, ‘Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.’
