All the descendants of Israel will be justified and boast in the  Lord.

Her leaders issue rulings for a bribe, her priests teach for payment, and her prophets practise divination for silver. Yet they lean on the  Lord, saying, ‘Isn’t the Lord   among us? No disaster will overtake us.’

On that day you  will not be put to shame because of everything you have done in rebelling  against me. For then I will remove from among you your jubilant,  arrogant people, and you will never again be haughty on my holy mountain.

And don’t presume to say to yourselves, “We have Abraham as our father.”  For I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.

‘You’ve answered correctly,’ he told him. ‘Do this and you will live.’

You pore over the Scriptures   because you think you have eternal life in them, and yet they testify about me.

Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. Your accuser is Moses,   on whom you have set your hope.

Didn’t Moses   give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law.   Why are you trying to kill me? ’

‘We are descendants  of Abraham,’  they answered him, ‘and we have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say, “You will become free”? ’

You’re doing what your father does.’ ‘We weren’t born  of sexual immorality,’  they said. ‘We have one Father #– #God.’

You who boast in the law,  do you dishonour God by breaking the law?

Where, then, is boasting?  It is excluded. By what kind of law?  , By one of works? No, on the contrary, by a law  of faith.

Why is that? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were by works.  They stumbled over the stumbling stone.

Are they Hebrews?  So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the descendants of Abraham?  So am I.

We are Jews by birth and not ‘Gentile sinners’,

So, then, remember that at one time you were Gentiles in the flesh #– #called ‘the uncircumcised’ by those called ‘the circumcised’,  which is done in the flesh by human hands.

I know your   affliction and poverty, but you are rich. I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

‘Write to the angel   of the church in Sardis: Thus says the one who has the seven spirits of God   and the seven stars:   I know your works;   you have a reputation   for being alive, but you are dead.

Note this: I will make those from the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews and are not, but are lying #– #I will make them come and bow down at your feet,   and they will know that I have loved you.
