Wine is a mocker,  beer is a brawler; whoever goes astray  because of them is not wise.


The one who loves pleasure will become poor; whoever loves wine and oil will not get rich.


and put a knife to your throat if you have a big   appetite;


A discerning son keeps the law, but a companion of gluttons humiliates his father.


But look: joy and gladness, butchering of cattle, slaughtering of sheep and goats, eating of meat, and drinking of wine – ‘Let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we die! ’


Woe to those who rise early in the morning in pursuit of beer, who linger into the evening, inflamed by wine.


Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine, who are champions at pouring beer,


and starts to beat his fellow servants, and eats and drinks with drunkards,


Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and travelled to a distant country, where he squandered   his estate in foolish living.


‘There was a rich man who would dress in purple and fine linen,   feasting lavishly every day.


‘Be on your guard,   so that your minds are not dulled   from carousing,   drunkenness,   and worries of life,   or that day will come on you unexpectedly


Let us walk with decency,  as in the daytime: not in carousing and drunkenness;  not in sexual impurity and promiscuity; not in quarrelling and jealousy.


And don’t get drunk  with wine,  which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit:


They will say to the elders of his city, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he doesn’t obey us. He’s a glutton and a drunkard.”
