Numbers 35:25 - Christian Standard Bible Anglicised

25 The assembly is to protect the one who kills someone from the avenger of blood. Then the assembly will return him to the city of refuge he fled to, and he must live there until the death of the high priest who was anointed with the holy oil.

We will certainly die  and be like water poured out on the ground, which can’t be recovered. But God would not take away a life; he would devise plans so that the one banished from him does not remain banished.


Take the anointing oil, pour it on his head, and anoint  him.


‘The priest who is highest among his brothers, who has had the anointing oil poured on his head and has been ordained  to wear the clothes, must not dishevel his hair  or tear his clothes.


‘If the anointed priest  sins, bringing guilt  on the people, he is to present to the Lord a young, unblemished  bull as a sin  offering  for the sin he has committed.


He poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed and consecrated him.

‘If the one who kills someone ever goes outside the border of the city of refuge he fled to,


for the one who killed a person was supposed to live in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. Only after the death of the high priest may the one who has killed a person return to the land he possesses.


He is to stay in that city until he stands trial before the assembly and until the death of the high priest serving at that time.  Then the one who committed manslaughter may return home to his own city from which he fled.’
