But you will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age.


This is the length  of Ishmael’s life: 137 years. He took his last breath and died, and was gathered to his people.

Now the priest of Midian  had seven daughters. They came to draw water and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.


Therefore the Lord God of Armies, the Mighty One of Israel, declares: ‘Ah, I will get even with my foes; I will take revenge against my enemies.


The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord takes vengeance and is fierce in   wrath. The Lord takes vengeance against his foes; he is furious with his enemies.


‘Aaron will be gathered to his people; he will not enter the land I have given the Israelites, because you both rebelled against my command at the Waters of Meribah.


Remove Aaron’s garments and put them on his son Eleazar. Aaron will be gathered to his people and die there.’


While Israel was staying in the Acacia Grove,  , the people began to prostitute themselves with the women of Moab.


An Israelite man came bringing a Midianite woman to his relatives in the sight of Moses and the whole Israelite community while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting.


After you have seen it, you will also be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was.


So Moses spoke to the people, ‘Equip some of your men for war. They will go against Midian to inflict the Lord’s vengeance  on them.


because these are days of vengeance   to fulfil all the things that are written.


For David, after serving God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep,  was buried with his fathers, and decayed,


Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for God’s wrath, because it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay,   , says the Lord.


For it is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, because it does not carry the sword for no reason. For it is God’s servant, an avenger  that brings wrath on the one who does wrong.


Vengeance and retribution belong to me.  , In time their foot will slip, for their day of disaster is near, and their doom is coming quickly.’


I won’t be crossing the Jordan because I am going to die in this land.  But you are about to cross over and take possession of this good land.


This means one must not transgress against and take advantage  of a brother or sister in this manner, because the Lord is an avenger of all these offences, as we also previously told and warned you.


For we know the one who has said, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay,   , and again, The Lord will judge his people.   ,


Rejoice over her, heaven, and you saints, apostles, and prophets, because God has pronounced on her the judgement  she passed on you!


because his judgements are true  and righteous, because he has judged the notorious prostitute who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality; and he has avenged the blood of his servants that was on her hands.


They cried out with a loud voice, ‘Lord,  the one who is holy and true,  how long until you judge those who live on the earth and avenge our blood?   ’


When the people saw him, they praised their god  and said: Our god has handed over to us our enemy who destroyed our land and who multiplied our dead.


That whole generation was also gathered to their ancestors. After them another generation rose up who did not know the Lord   or the works he had done for Israel.
