because they did not meet the Israelites with food and water. Instead, they hired Balaam against them to curse them,  but our God turned the curse into a blessing.


It claps  its hands at him and scoffs at him from its place.


‘So you, son of man, prophesy and clap your hands together: Let the sword strike twice, even three times. It is a sword for massacre, a sword for great massacre – it surrounds  them!


I also will clap my hands together, and I will satisfy my wrath.  I, the Lord, have spoken.’


‘ “Now look, I clap my hands together against the dishonest profit you have made  and against the blood shed among you.


“Look, a people has come out of Egypt, and they cover the surface of the land. Now come and put a curse on them for me. I may be able to fight against them and drive them away.” ’


for I will greatly honour you and do whatever you ask me. So please come and put a curse on these people for me! ” ’


Please come and put a curse on these people for me because they are more powerful than I am. I may be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land, for I know that those you bless are blessed and those you curse are cursed.’


‘What have you done to me? ’ Balak asked Balaam. ‘I brought you to curse my enemies, but look, you have only blessed them! ’


Now go to your home! I said I would reward you richly,  but look, the Lord has denied you a reward.’


He crouches, he lies down like a lion or a lioness #– #who dares to rouse him? Those who bless you will be blessed, and those who curse you will be cursed.


‘Now this happened three times, and everything was drawn up again into heaven.


Never pursue their welfare or prosperity as long as you live.
