Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and water: and they hired against them Balaam, to curse them; and our God turned the curse into blessing.


He shall clasp his hands upon him, and shall hiss at him, beholding his place.


Thou therefore, O son of man, prophesy and strike thy hands together: and let the sword be doubled, and let the sword of the slain be tripled. This is the sword of a great slaughter that maketh them stand amazed,


And I will clap my hands together and will satisfy my indignation: I, the Lord have spoken.


Behold, I have clapped my hands at thy covetousness, which thou hast exercised: and at the blood that hath been shed in the midst of thee.


Saying: Behold a people that is come out of Egypt hath covered the face of the land. Come and curse them, if by any means I may fight with them and drive them away.


For I am ready to honour thee, and will give thee whatsoever thou wilt. Come and curse this people.


Come therefore, and curse this people, because it is mightier than I, if by any means I may beat them and drive them out of my land. For I know that he whom thou shalt bless is blessed, and he whom thou shalt curse is cursed.


And Balac said to Balaam: What is this that thou dost? I sent for thee to curse my enemies: and thou contrariwise blessest them.


Return to thy place. I had determined indeed greatly to honour thee: but the Lord hath deprived thee of the honour designed for thee.


Lying down he hath slept as a lion, and as a lioness, whom none shall dare to rouse. He that blesseth thee shall also himself be blessed. He that curseth thee shall be reckoned accursed.


And this was done three times: and all were taken up again into heaven.


Thou shalt not make peace with them: neither shalt thou seek their prosperity all the days of thy life for ever.
