Why then have you despised the Lord’s command by doing what I consider  evil?  You struck down Uriah  the Hethite with the sword and took his wife as your own wife #– #you murdered him with the Ammonite’s sword.


Anyone who blends something like it or puts some of it on an unauthorised person must be cut off  from his people.’


The one who has contempt for instruction will pay the penalty, but the one who respects a command will be rewarded.


Therefore the Holy One of Israel says: ‘Because you have rejected this message and have trusted in oppression and deceit, and have depended on them,


We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished him for  the iniquity  of us all.


The person who sins is the one who will die.  A son won’t suffer punishment for the father’s iniquity, and a father won’t suffer punishment for the son’s iniquity.  The righteousness of the righteous person will be on him,  and the wickedness of the wicked person will be on him.


if you reject my statutes and despise my ordinances, and do not observe all my commands #– #and break my covenant,


For the land abandoned by them will make up for its Sabbaths by lying desolate without the people, while they make amends for their iniquity, because they rejected my ordinances and abhorred my statutes.


‘When someone sins in any of these ways: If he has seen, heard, or known about something he has witnessed, and did not respond to a public call to testify, he will bear his iniquity.


‘But the man who is ceremonially clean, is not on a journey, and yet fails to observe the Passover is to be cut off from his people, because he did not present the Lord’s offering at its appointed time. That man will bear the consequences of his sin.


The person who acts arrogantly, refusing to listen either to the priest who stands there serving the Lord your God or to the judge, must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.


Consequently, anyone who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.


He himself bore our sins  in his body  on the tree;  so that, having died to sins,  we might live for righteousness.  By his wounds   , you have been healed.


For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness  than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy command  delivered  to them.


Therefore, I have sworn to Eli’s family: The iniquity of Eli’s family will never be wiped out by either sacrifice or offering.’
