For twenty years in your household I served you #– #fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flocks   #– #and you have changed my wages ten times!


and that he has cheated me and changed my wages ten times. But God has not let him harm me.


You have humiliated me ten times now, and you mistreat   me without shame.


They said to Moses, ‘Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?


The people grumbled to Moses, ‘What are we going to drink? ’


The entire Israelite community grumbled  against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.


So the people complained to Moses, ‘Give us water to drink.’ ‘Why are you complaining to me? ’ Moses replied to them. ‘Why are you testing  the Lord? ’


But the people thirsted there for water and grumbled against Moses. They said, ‘Why did you ever bring us up from Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst? ’


He named the place Massah  and Meribah  , because the Israelites complained, and because they tested the Lord, saying, ‘Is the Lord among us or not? ’


When the people saw that Moses delayed in coming down from the mountain, they gathered round Aaron and said to him, ‘Come, make gods  for us who will go before us because this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt #– #we don’t know what has happened to him! ’


‘May the Lord take note of you and judge,’ they said to them, ‘because you have made us reek to Pharaoh and his officials #– #putting a sword in their hand to kill us! ’


Though seeing many things,  you pay no attention. Though his ears are open, he does not listen.’


In every matter of wisdom and understanding that the king consulted them about, he found them ten times  , better than all the magicians and mediums  in his entire kingdom.


So now we consider the arrogant  to be fortunate.  Not only do those who commit wickedness prosper, they even test God  and escape.’


Now the people began complaining openly before  the Lord about hardship. When the Lord heard, his anger burned,  and fire  from the Lord blazed among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp.


The rabble  among them  had a strong craving  for other food. The Israelites wept again and said, ‘Who will feed us meat?


Miriam  and Aaron criticised Moses because of the Cushite woman he married (for he had married a Cushite woman).


The Lord said to Moses, ‘How long will these people despise me? How long will they not trust in me despite all the signs I have performed among them?


All the Israelites complained about Moses and Aaron,  and the whole community told them, ‘If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness!


none except Caleb  son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua  son of Nun, because they did remain loyal to the Lord.”


Jesus told him, ‘It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God.’   ,


Nevertheless God was not pleased with most of them, since they were struck down in the wilderness.


Let us not test Christ as some of them did  and were destroyed by snakes.


‘Remember  and do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God in the wilderness. You have been rebelling against the Lord from the day you left the land of Egypt until you reached this place.


where your ancestors tested me, tried me, and saw my works
