27 ‘But, so we won’t offend them, go to the sea, cast in a fish hook, and take the first fish that you catch. When you open its mouth you’ll find a coin.   Take it and give it to them for me and you.’

God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth,  and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.’


You are to drink from the wadi. I have commanded the ravens  to provide for you there.’


The Lord appointed a great fish  to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights.


Then the Lord commanded the fish,  and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.


‘From strangers,’ he said. ‘Then the sons are free,’ Jesus told him.


‘But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to fall away #– #it would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung round his neck and he were drowned in the depths of the sea.


If your hand or your foot causes you to fall away, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire.


If your right eye causes you to sin,   gouge it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.


And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

It would be better for him if a millstone were hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to stumble.


Jesus, knowing in himself  that his disciples were grumbling about this, asked them, ‘Does this offend you?


It is a good thing not to eat meat, or drink wine, or do anything that makes your brother or sister stumble.


Therefore, if food causes my brother or sister to fall, I will never again eat meat,  so that I won’t cause my brother or sister to fall.


But be careful that this right of yours in no way becomes a stumbling block  to the weak.


We are not giving anyone an occasion for offence, so that the ministry will not be blamed.


For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ: Though he was rich,  for your sake he became poor,  so that by his poverty you might become rich.


Stay away  from every kind of evil.


Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Didn’t God choose the poor in this world  to be rich in faith  and heirs  of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?
