You were patient with them for many years, and your Spirit warned them through your prophets, but they would not listen. Therefore, you handed them over to the surrounding peoples.


while the rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.


‘Jerusalem, Jerusalem,   who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks   under her wings, but you were not willing!


Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted   the prophets who were before you.


Again he sent another servant to them, and they   hit him on the head and treated him shamefully.


He still had one to send, a beloved   son. Finally   he sent him to them, saying, “They will respect my son.”


But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did whatever they pleased to him, just as it is written   about him.’


Be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.
