because  your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and against its inhabitants, and because you humbled yourself before me, and you tore your clothes and wept before me, I myself have heard” #– #this is the Lord’s declaration.


Then the eyes of those who see will not be closed, and the ears of those who hear will listen.


Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped.


in order to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon, and those sitting in darkness from the prison house.


I have stirred him up in righteousness, and will level all roads for him. He will rebuild my city, and set my exiles free, not for a price or a bribe,’ says the Lord of Armies.


saying to the prisoners, ‘Come out,’ and to those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves.’ They will feed along the pathways, and their pastures will be on all the barren heights.


The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are instructed to know how to sustain the weary with a word. He awakens me each morning; he awakens my ear to listen like those being instructed.


For the High and Exalted One, who lives for ever, whose name is holy,  says this: ‘I live in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and lowly of spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the oppressed.


‘As for me, this is my covenant with them,’  says the Lord: ‘My Spirit who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth,  will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of your children’s children, from now on and for ever,’ says the Lord.


The Spirit of the Lord God is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal  the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners;


My hand made all these things, and so they all came into being. This is the  Lord’s declaration. I will look favourably on this kind of person: one who is humble,  submissive   in spirit, and trembles at my word.


‘Pass throughout the city of Jerusalem,’ the Lord said to him, ‘and put a mark on the foreheads  of the men who sigh and groan  over all the detestable practices committed in it.’


Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city – to bring the rebellion to an end, to put a stop to sin, to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place.


I will leave a meek and humble people  among you, and they will take refuge in the name of the  Lord.


It was annulled on that day, and so the oppressed of the flock  who were watching me knew that it was the word of the Lord.


But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings,  and you will go out and playfully jump like calves from the stall.


The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy   are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news,


Here is my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.


He will not break a bruised reed, and he will not put out a smouldering wick, until he has led justice to victory.


The people who live in darkness have seen a great light, and for those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned.   ,,


‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven   is theirs.


The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him, and unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written:


Then looking up at his disciples, he said: Blessed are you who are poor, because the kingdom of God is yours.


He replied to them, ‘Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy   are cleansed, the deaf hear,   the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news,


He first found his own brother Simon and told him, ‘We have found the Messiah’  , (which is translated ‘the Christ’),


I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me would not remain in darkness.


For the one whom God sent speaks God’s words, since he  gives the Spirit  without measure.


how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how he went about doing good and healing all who were under the tyranny of the devil, because God was with him.


to open their eyes   so that they may turn   from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share among those who are sanctified by faith in me.”


The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers assemble together against the Lord and against his Messiah.   ,


‘For, in fact, in this city both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, assembled together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,


He has rescued  us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom  of the Son  he loves.


Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Didn’t God choose the poor in this world  to be rich in faith  and heirs  of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?


But you are a chosen race,   ,, a royal priesthood,   , a holy nation,   , a people for his possession,   , so that you may proclaim the praises   ,, of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.
