As soon as the angels got them outside, one of them  said, ‘Run for your lives! Don’t look back and don’t stop anywhere on the plain! Run to the mountains, or you will be swept away! ’


But Lot’s wife looked back and became a pillar of salt.


A sensible person sees danger and takes cover, but the inexperienced keep going and are punished.


However, when King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon marched into the land,  we said, “Come, let’s go into Jerusalem to get away from the Chaldean and Aramean armies.” So we have been living in Jerusalem.’


Jeremiah started to leave Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to claim his portion there  among the people.


‘Run for cover out of Jerusalem, Benjaminites. Sound the ram’s horn  in Tekoa; raise a smoke signal  over Beth-haccherem, for disaster threatens from the north, even a crushing blow.


He warned the community, ‘Get away now from the tents of these wicked men. Don’t touch anything that belongs to them,  or you will be swept away because of all their sins.’


After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem,


‘then those in Judea must flee to the mountains.


A man on the housetop must not come down or go in to get anything out of his house,


Then I heard another voice from heaven: Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins or receive any of her plagues.
