In the fourth generation they will return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.’  ,


I will cut off Israel from the land I gave them,  and I will reject  the temple I have sanctified for my name.  Israel will become an object of scorn and ridicule among all the peoples.


He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, imitating the detestable practices of the nations that the Lord had dispossessed before the Israelites.


After these things had been done, the leaders approached me and said, ‘The people of Israel, the priests, and the Levites have not separated themselves  from the surrounding peoples whose detestable practices  are like those of the Canaanites, Hethites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and Amorites.


So I sent you all my servants the prophets time and time again,  , saying, “Don’t commit this detestable action that I hate.”


‘Son of man, while the house of Israel lived in their land, they defiled it with their conduct and actions.  Their behaviour before me was like menstrual impurity.


Do not follow the practices of the land of Egypt,  where you used to live, or follow the practices of the land of Canaan,  where I am bringing you. You must not follow their customs.


You must keep my instruction to not do any of the detestable customs  that were practised before you, so that you do not defile yourselves by them; I am the Lord your God.’


Do not make the land unclean where you live and where I dwell; for I, the Lord, reside among the Israelites.’


If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him;  for God’s temple is holy,  and that is what you are.


You must not do the same to the Lord your God, because they practise every detestable act, which the Lord hates, for their gods. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.


Everyone who does these acts is detestable to the Lord, and the Lord your God is driving out the nations before you because of these detestable acts.


When the Lord your God drives them out before you, do not say to yourself, “The Lord brought me in to take possession of this land because of my righteousness.”  Instead, the Lord will drive out these nations before you because of their wickedness.


You are not going to take possession of their land because of your righteousness or your integrity. Instead, the Lord your God will drive out these nations before you because of their wickedness, in order to fulfil the promise he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.


we will take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred out of every thousand, and one thousand out of every ten thousand to get provisions for the troops when they go to Gibeah in Benjamin to punish them for all the outrage they committed in Israel.’


Citizens of Gibeah came to attack me and surrounded the house at night. They intended to kill me, but they raped my concubine, and she died.


Then I took my concubine and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout Israel’s territory, because they have committed a wicked outrage in  Israel.
