Leviticus 16:16 - Christian Standard Bible Anglicised

16 He will make atonement for the most holy place in this way for all their sins because of the Israelites’ impurities and rebellious acts.  He will do the same for the tent of meeting that remains among them, because it is surrounded by their impurities.

‘Once a year Aaron is to perform the atonement ceremony for the altar. Throughout your generations he is to perform the atonement ceremony for  it once a year, with the blood of the sin offering for atonement on the horns.  The altar is especially holy to the Lord.’


No one may be in the tent of meeting from the time he enters to make atonement in the most holy place until he leaves after he has made atonement for himself, his household, and the whole assembly of Israel.


Then he will go out to the altar that is before the Lord and make atonement for it. He is to take some of the bull’s blood and some of the goat’s blood and put it on the horns on all sides of the altar.


‘The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement.  You are to hold a sacred assembly and practise self-denial;  you are to present a food offering to the Lord.


Then Moses slaughtered it,  took the blood, and applied it with his finger to the horns of the altar on all sides, purifying  the altar. He poured out the blood at the base of the altar and consecrated it so that atonement can be made on it.  ,


So Moses did as the Lord commanded him.


And one male goat is to be offered as a sin offering to the Lord, in addition to the regular burnt offering with its drink offering.


If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again   and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also.


Therefore, he had to be like his brothers and sisters in every way, so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in matters  pertaining to God, to make atonement  , for the sins of the people.
