Lamentations 5:17
17 Tagairtí Cros

My eyes have grown dim from grief, and my whole body has become but a shadow.

Why do you want more beatings? Why do you keep on rebelling? The whole head is hurt, and the whole heart is sick.

I chirp like a swallow or a crane; I moan like a dove. My eyes grow weak looking upwards. Lord, I am oppressed; support me.

Why have I seen this? They are terrified, they are retreating, their warriors are crushed, they flee headlong, they never look back, terror is on every side! This is the  Lord’s declaration.

My joy has flown away; grief has settled on me. My heart is sick.

He sent fire from on high  into my bones; he made it descend.  , He spread a net for my feet and turned me back. He made me desolate, ill all day long.

Let all their wickedness come before you, and deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my transgressions. For my groans are many, and I am sick at heart.

My eyes are worn out from weeping; I am churning within. My heart is poured out in grief  , because of the destruction of my dear people, because infants and nursing babies faint in the streets of the city.

I have appointed a sword  for slaughter at all their gates, so that their hearts may melt and many may stumble. Yes! It is ready to flash like lightning; it is drawn  for slaughter.

And when they ask you, “Why are you groaning? ” then say, “Because of the news that is coming.  Every heart will melt, and every hand will become weak. Every spirit will be discouraged, and all knees will run with urine.  , Yes, it is coming and it will happen. This is the declaration of the Lord God.” ’

‘I will put anxiety in the hearts of those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a wind-driven leaf will put them to flight, and they will flee as one flees from a sword, and fall though no one is pursuing them.

‘As a result, I have begun to strike you severely,  , bringing desolation because of your sins.

You will find no peace among those nations, and there will be no resting place  for the sole of your foot. There the Lord will give you a trembling heart, failing eyes, and a despondent spirit.
