Ahab also made an Asherah pole.  Ahab did more to anger the Lord God of Israel than all the kings of Israel who were before him.


Now summon all Israel to meet me at Mount Carmel,  along with the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah  who eat at Jezebel’s table.’


He broke the sacred pillars into pieces,  cut down the Asherah poles,  then filled their places with human bones.


He brought out the Asherah pole  from the Lord’s temple to the Kidron Valley outside Jerusalem. He burned it at the Kidron Valley,  beat it to dust,  and threw its dust on the graves of the common people.  ,


King Asa  also removed Maacah, his grandmother,  , from being queen mother because she had made an obscene image of Asherah. Asa chopped down her obscene image, then crushed it and burned it in the Kidron Valley.


and they abandoned the temple of the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and served the Asherah poles and the idols.  So there was wrath  against Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs.


His prayer and how God was receptive to his prayer, and all his sin and unfaithfulness and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and carved images before he humbled himself, they are written in the Events of Hozai.


He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had torn down  and re-established the altars for the Baals. He made Asherah poles, and he bowed in worship to all the stars in the sky and served them.


In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still a youth, Josiah began to seek the God of his ancestor David,  and in the twelfth year he began to cleanse Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherah poles, the carved images,  and the cast images.


He tore down the altars, and he smashed the Asherah poles and the carved images to powder. He chopped down all the shrines throughout the land of Israel and returned to Jerusalem.


Instead, you must tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, and chop down their Asherah poles.


Through their dreams that they tell one another, they plan to cause my people to forget my name as their ancestors forgot my name through Baal worship.


‘Do not set up an Asherah of any kind of wood next to the altar you will build for the Lord your God,


‘Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves,  so that you don’t forget  the things your eyes have seen and so that they don’t slip from your mind  as long as you live. Teach them to your children and your grandchildren.


‘Be careful that you don’t forget the Lord your God by failing to keep his commands, ordinances, and statutes that I am giving you today.


be careful that your heart doesn’t become proud and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.


but remember that the Lord your God gives you the power to gain wealth, in order to confirm his covenant he swore to your ancestors,  as it is today.


The Israelites again did what was evil in the Lord’s sight. He gave King Eglon of Moab  power over Israel, because they had done what was evil in the Lord’s sight.


The Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and he sold them to King Cushan-rishathaim  of Aram-naharaim,  , and the Israelites served him for eight years.


On that very night the Lord said to him, ‘Take your father’s young bull and a second bull seven years old. Then tear down the altar of Baal  that belongs to your father and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.


When Gideon died, the Israelites turned and prostituted  themselves by worshipping the Baals and made Baal-berith  their god.


The Israelites did not remember the Lord their God  who had rescued them from the hand of the enemies around them.


Then they cried out to the Lord and said, “We have sinned, for we abandoned the Lord and worshipped the Baals and the Ashtoreths. Now rescue us from the power of our enemies,  and we will serve you.”


But they forgot the Lord their God, so he handed them over to Sisera  commander of the army of Hazor, to the Philistines, and to the king of Moab.  These enemies fought against them.
