In those days  Hezekiah became terminally ill.  The prophet Isaiah  son of Amoz came and said to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Set your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.” ’


I will add fifteen years to your life. I will rescue you and this city from the grasp of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.” ’


Therefore the Lord is waiting to show you mercy, and is rising up to show you compassion, for the Lord is a just God. All who wait patiently for him are happy.


“If you will indeed stay in this land, then I will rebuild and not demolish you,  and I will plant and not uproot you, because I relent concerning the disaster that I have brought on you.


God saw their actions #– #that they had turned from their evil ways   #– #so God relented from the disaster  he had threatened them with. And he did not do it.


The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgement with this generation and condemn it,   because they repented at Jonah’s preaching; and look #– #something greater than Jonah is here.


For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so also the Son of Man   will be to this generation.

When a prophet speaks in the Lord’s name, and the message does not come true or is not fulfilled, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
