‘If a man commits adultery  with a married woman #– #if he commits adultery with his neighbour’s wife #– #both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.


So her husband, Joseph, being a righteous man,  and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, decided to divorce her secretly.


Then the scribes and the Pharisees  brought a woman caught in adultery,  making her stand in the centre.


In the law Moses  commanded us to stone such women.  So what do you say? ’


‘If a man is discovered having sexual relations with another man’s wife, both the man who had sex with the woman and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.


Then her husband got up and followed her to speak kindly to her  and bring her back. He had his servant with him and a pair of donkeys. So she brought him to her father’s house, and when the girl’s father saw him, he gladly welcomed him.
