They said,  ‘If you are the Messiah, tell us.’ But he said to them, ‘If I do tell you, you will not believe.


This was John’s testimony when the Jews from Jerusalem  sent priests  and Levites  to ask him, ‘Who are you? ’


‘Who are you, then? ’ they asked. ‘We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What can you tell us about yourself? ’


The Jews surrounded him and asked, ‘How long are you going to keep us in suspense?  If you are the Messiah,  tell us plainly.’  ,


He went back into the headquarters  and asked Jesus, ‘Where are you from? ’ But Jesus did not give him an answer.


Jesus spoke to them again: ‘I am   the light   of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.’


Therefore I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.’


‘I have many things to say and to judge about you, but the one who sent me   is true, and what I have heard from him #– #these things I tell the world.’
