John 5:15
12 Tagairtí Cros

Yet he went out and began to proclaim  it widely and to spread the news,  with the result that Jesus could no longer enter a town openly. But he was out in deserted places, and they came to him from everywhere.

This was John’s testimony when the Jews from Jerusalem  sent priests  and Levites  to ask him, ‘Who are you? ’

‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah? ’

and so the Jews  said to the man who had been healed, ‘This is the Sabbath.  The law prohibits you from picking up your mat.’

‘Who is this man who told you, “Pick up your mat and walk”? ’ they asked.

Therefore, the Jews began persecuting  Jesus  because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.

This is why the Jews began trying all the more to kill him:  Not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal to God.

Then the Pharisees asked him again how he received his sight. ‘He put mud on my eyes,’ he told them. ‘I washed and I can see.’

He answered, ‘Whether or not he’s a sinner, I don’t know. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I can see! ’

‘This is an amazing thing! ’ the man told them. ‘You don’t know where he is from, and yet he opened my eyes.

‘You were born entirely in sin,’  they replied, ‘and are you trying to teach us? ’ Then they threw him out.
