The pillars that hold up the sky tremble, astounded at his rebuke.


People will go into caves in the rocks and holes in the ground, away from the terror of the  Lord and from his majestic splendour, when he rises to terrify the earth.

Look, the Lord is stripping the earth bare and making it desolate. He will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants:


I looked at the mountains, and they were quaking; all the hills shook.


The earth quakes before them; the sky shakes. The sun and moon grow dark, and the stars cease their shining.


‘Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah: I am going to shake the heavens and the earth.


For the Lord of Armies says this: ‘Once more, in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth,  the sea and the dry land.

He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the rubbish heap. He seats them with noblemen and gives them a throne of honour. For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; he has set the world on them.
