but he went on a day’s journey into the wilderness. He sat down under a broom tree  and prayed that he might die. He said, ‘I have had enough! Lord, take my life,  for I’m no better than my ancestors.’


Emaciated from poverty and hunger, they gnawed the dry land, the desolate wasteland by night.


They were banished from human society; people shouted at them as if they were thieves.


So Amos answered Amaziah, ‘I was  not a prophet or the son of a prophet;  , rather, I was  a herdsman,  and I took care of sycamore figs.


He longed to eat his fill from   the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one would give him anything.
