Yet I am not destroyed  by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face.


Why is life given to a man whose path is hidden, whom God has hedged in?


But when I hoped for good, evil came; when I looked for light, darkness   came.


But the way of the wicked is like the darkest gloom; they don’t know what makes them stumble.


Who among you fears the  Lord and listens to his servant? Who among you walks in darkness, and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the  Lord; let him lean on his God.


Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We hope for light, but there is darkness; for brightness, but we live in the night.


Give glory to the  Lord your God before he brings darkness, before your feet stumble on the mountains at dusk. You wait for light, but he brings darkest gloom and makes total darkness.


Therefore, their way will seem like slippery paths in the gloom. They will be driven away and fall down there, for I will bring disaster on them, the year of their punishment. This is the  Lord’s declaration.


He has laid siege against me, encircling me with bitterness and hardship.


He has walled me in so I cannot get out; he has weighed me down with chains.


He has walled in my ways with blocks of stone; he has made my paths crooked.


Therefore, this is what I will do: I will block her  way  with thorns; I will enclose her with a wall, so that she cannot find her paths.


She does not recognise that it is I who gave her the grain, the new wine, and the fresh oil. I lavished silver and gold on her, which they used for Baal.


Jesus spoke to them again: ‘I am   the light   of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.’


Your ancestors cried out to the Lord, so he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea over them, engulfing them. Your own eyes saw what I did to Egypt. After that, you lived in the wilderness a long time.
