I am disgusted with my life. I will give vent to my complaint and speak in the bitterness of my soul.


My friends scoff at me as I weep before God.


He has removed my brothers from me; my acquaintances have abandoned me.


There the wicked  cease to make trouble, and there the weary find rest.


Since I cannot help myself, the hope for success has been banished from me.


I give up! I will not live for ever. Leave me alone,  for my days are a breath.


So I have been made to inherit months of futility, and troubled nights have been assigned to me.


The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are instructed to know how to sustain the weary with a word. He awakens me each morning; he awakens my ear to listen like those being instructed.


‘As a result, I have begun to strike you severely,  , bringing desolation because of your sins.
