Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall,


I never sat with the band of revellers, and I did not celebrate with them. Because your hand was on me, I sat alone, for you filled me with indignation.


You have left me.’ This is the  Lord’s declaration. ‘You have turned your back, so I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you. I am tired  of showing compassion.


Therefore, hand their children over to famine, and give them over to the power of the sword. Let their wives become childless and widowed, their husbands slain by deadly disease, their young men struck down by the sword in battle.


I say, ‘I won’t mention him or speak any longer in his name.’ But his message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones. I become tired of holding it in, and I cannot prevail.


Should I not punish them for these things? This is the  Lord’s declaration. Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this?


Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: ‘Look, my anger #– #my burning wrath #– #is about to be poured out on this place,  on people and animals, on the tree of the field, and on the produce of the land. My wrath will burn and not be quenched.’


Now hear the word of the  Lord, you women. Pay attention to   the words from his mouth. Teach your daughters a lament and one another a dirge,


for Death  has climbed through our windows; it has entered our fortresses, cutting off children from the streets, young men from the squares.


The Lord has rejected all the mighty men within me. He has summoned an army  against me to crush my young warriors. The Lord has trampled Virgin Daughter Judah like grapes in a winepress.


Both young and old are lying on the ground in the streets. My young women and young men have fallen by the sword. You have killed them in the day of your anger, slaughtering without compassion.


Say to the house of Israel, “This is what the Lord God says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the delight of your eyes, and the desire of your heart. Also, the sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.


The Spirit lifted me up and took me away. I left in bitterness and in an angry spirit, and the Lord’s hand was on me powerfully.


‘Son of man,’ he said to me, ‘feed your stomach and fill your belly with this scroll I am giving you.’ So I ate it,  and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth.


Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, as well as the children and older women,  but do not come near anyone who has the mark.  Begin at my sanctuary.’  So they began with the elders who were in front of the temple.


As for me, however, I am filled with power by the Spirit of the  Lord, with justice and courage, to proclaim to Jacob his rebellion and to Israel his sin.


I tell you, on that night   two will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left.


While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply distressed when he saw that the city was full of idols.


When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself to preaching the word  and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah.


for we are unable to stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.’


Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels,  ‘Go and pour out the seven  bowls  of God’s wrath on the earth.’
