For before the harvest, when the blossoming is over and the blossom becomes a ripening grape, he will cut off the shoots with a pruning knife, and tear away and remove the branches.


My people who have been crushed on the threshing-floor, I have declared to you what I have heard from the  Lord of Armies, the God of Israel.


‘Go down and sit in the dust, Virgin Daughter Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, Daughter Chaldea! For you will no longer be called pampered and spoilt.


The fords have been seized, the marshes set on fire, and the fighting men are terrified.


A harvest is also appointed for you, Judah. When I restore the fortunes of my people,


Swing the sickle because the harvest is ripe. Come and trample the grapes because the winepress is full; the wine vats overflow because the wickedness of the nations is extreme.


The Lord says: I will not relent from punishing Damascus for three crimes, even four, because they threshed Gilead with iron sledges.


But they do not know the  Lord’s intentions or understand his plan, that he has gathered them like sheaves to the threshing-floor.


Rise and thresh,  Daughter Zion, for I will make your horns iron and your hooves bronze so that you can crush many peoples. Then you  will set apart their plunder for the Lord, their wealth for the Lord of the whole earth.


You march across the earth with indignation; you trample down the nations in wrath.


Let both grow together until the harvest. At harvest time I’ll tell the reapers: Gather the weeds first and tie them in bundles to burn them, but collect the wheat in my barn.” ’


and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
