Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.


Before his downfall a person’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honour.


I will punish you according to what you have done   – this is the  Lord’s declaration. I will kindle a fire in your forest that will consume everything around it.” ’


I will set fire to the wall of Damascus; it will consume Ben-hadad’s citadels.


No one will be able to retrieve a cornerstone or a foundation stone from you, because you will become desolate for ever. This is the  Lord’s declaration.


Then say, “In the same way, Babylon will sink and never rise again because of the disaster I am bringing on her. They will grow weary.” ’ The words of Jeremiah end here.


But when his heart was exalted and his spirit became arrogant,  he was deposed from his royal throne and his glory was taken from him.


Therefore, I will send fire  against the walls of Tyre, and it will consume its citadels.


Therefore, I will send fire against Teman, and it will consume the citadels of Bozrah.


Therefore, I will set fire to the walls of Rabbah, and it will consume its citadels. There will be shouting on the day of battle and a violent wind on the day of the storm.


Therefore, I will send fire against Hazael’s palace, and it will consume Ben-hadad’s   citadels.


Therefore, I will send fire against the walls of Gaza, and it will consume its citadels.


Therefore, I will send fire against Moab, and it will consume the citadels of Kerioth. Moab will die with a tumult, with shouting and the sound of the ram’s horn.


Therefore, I will send fire  against Judah, and it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem.


She has fallen; Virgin Israel  will never rise again. She lies abandoned on her land with no one to raise her up.


For fire has been kindled because of my anger and burns to the depths of Sheol; it devours the land and its produce, and scorches the foundations of the mountains.


For this reason her plagues will come in just one day – death and grief and famine. She will be burned up with fire, because the Lord God who judges   her is mighty.
