If you mistreat my daughters or take other wives, though no one is with us, understand that God will be a witness between you and me.’


‘You speak to us, and we will listen,’ they said to Moses, ‘but don’t let God speak to us, or we will die.’


Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God, because the Lord will not leave anyone unpunished who misuses his name.


You have gone astray at the cost of your lives  because you are the ones who sent me to the Lord your God, saying, “Pray to the Lord our God on our behalf, and as for all that the Lord our God says, tell it to us, and we’ll act accordingly.”


then Azariah  son of Hoshaiah,  Johanan son of Kareah, and all the other arrogant men responded to Jeremiah, ‘You are speaking a lie! The Lord our God has not sent you to say, “You must not go to Egypt to stay there for a while! ”


So Johanan son of Kareah, all the commanders of the armies, and all the people failed to obey the Lord’s command to stay in the land of Judah.


When they say, ‘As the  Lord  lives,’ they are swearing falsely.


Listen, all you peoples; pay attention, earth  and everyone in it! The Lord God will be a witness against you, the Lord, from his holy temple.


And you ask, ‘Why? ’ Because even though the Lord has been a witness  between you and the wife of your youth,  you have acted treacherously against her. She was your marriage partner  and your wife by covenant.


‘I will come to you in judgement, and I will be ready to witness against sorcerers and adulterers; against those who swear falsely; against those who oppress the hired worker, the widow, and the fatherless; and against those who deny justice to the resident foreigner.  They do not fear me,’  says the Lord of Armies.


God is my witness,  whom I serve with my spirit  in telling the good news about his Son #– #that I constantly mention you,


and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness,  the firstborn from the dead  and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has set us free  from our sins by his blood,
