3 and the Lord has fulfilled it. He has done just what he decreed. Because you people have sinned against the Lord   and have not obeyed him, this thing has happened.

But as soon as they had relief, they again did what was evil in your sight. So you abandoned them to the power of their enemies, who dominated them. When they cried out to you again, you heard from heaven and rescued them many times in your compassion.


You are righteous concerning all that has happened to us, because you have acted faithfully, while we have acted wickedly.


‘The Lord of Armies who planted you  has decreed disaster against you, because of the disaster  the house of Israel and the house of Judah brought on themselves when they angered me by burning incense to Baal.’


‘Many nations will pass by this city and ask one another, “Why did the Lord do such a thing to this great city? ”


‘Go and tell Ebed-melech the Cushite,  “This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am about to fulfil my words for disaster and not for good against this city. They will take place before your eyes on that day.


Because you burned incense and sinned against the Lord and didn’t obey the Lord   and didn’t follow his instruction, his statutes, and his testimonies, this disaster has come to you, as you see today.’


Whoever found them devoured them. Their adversaries said, ‘We’re not guilty; instead, they have sinned against the  Lord, their righteous grazing land, the hope of their ancestors,  the  Lord.’


The Lord has done what he planned; he has accomplished his decree, which he ordained in days of old. He has demolished without compassion, letting the enemy gloat over you and exalting the horn of your adversaries.


Because of your hardened and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath  for yourself in the day of wrath,  when God’s righteous judgement is revealed.


Now we know that whatever the law says,  it speaks to those who are subject to the law,  , so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgement.  ,


Then people will answer, “It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their ancestors, which he had made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
